#35 "So Long John"

This song from a trip down to Nashville in the 70s.
We walked up and down music row (2nd Ave.)
Chasing a dream and full of hope.
So anyway for some reason my other song "Goin home to Nashville" did not render properly so I have redone the other song.
I still owe you all number 34, and I will work on it. But in the meantime, here is number 35.

 "SO LONG JOHN"

Copyr. 1994 Johnny Blood
  Johnny Blodgett.

Sleepin in the back of a pick up truck,
Money's all gone, guess I'm outa luck,
There ain't no place for John in Music City,

My socks are dirty, God I'm beat,
Music row's a one way street,
For some success for me defeat, I'm leavin.

(refrain)      Music city just don't want me
Music row has no place for me.
I've tried everything I know, but it's so long John,
You-all come again to Music City.

I've knocked on every door on music row,
Chased this dream as far as I can go,
The Grand Ole Opry will never know I've been here,

God only knows the way it hurts,
Broken dreams and dirty shirts
Now it's time to move on down the highway

                    (refrain)

Playin for tips in a Broadway Bar,
Hocked everything but my guitar,
I can't give in I've come to far to quit now.

I gave my all and paid my dues,
wore big holes in both my shoes,
could hang around but please excuse, I'm leavin.

                    (refrain)
                    (alternate)
I hate to leave the few I'm pleasin,
but common scense and all good reason, say it's not the time and not the season.

"read all about it" Song #33

This song has been on my mind for some time. I wrote this in the seventies I think. I say that because of the content. I didn't believe all that was written here until I accepted Christ and began to seriously study God's word. I was writing and sending material off to Johnny Cash. I would send the tapes and lyrics to Johnny Erdelyne who was the go to person for music for Mr. Cash's review. It was rejected but I always thought it would have been a great song for him at the time.
I must admit that I know very little about the newer music of today. I am still working on these songs and music still trying to produce some kind of interest. So much of today's music is not very appealing to me. Can't help it, I try but I still prefer music with a good melody and a strong and meaningful lyric. Too much of the stuff today is for a wrong message or just a special rhythm. Once in a while a song will come along with a special message and a strong melody. Some artists stand out of course. I enjoy a lot of energy and spirit in a song. I lean towards country but today's country is more of a rock song with way too much noise and it loses the beauty of the melody and you hardly understand the lyric. I do enjoy a lot of the new Christian songs and choruses.
This song "Read All About It" says a lot. It is a song of prophecy and comes from thoughts on the books of Daniel, Ezekiel, Psalms and Revelation. The message is the same. I think we are living in the times of the end.

Song number 33

Read all about it. . . . . . . Read All about it.
Did you hear what the man on the radio said?
Another earthquake, two thousand dead,
Multitudes suffering and underfed.
Thousands perish as sickness spreads.

Mmm. . . .mmm.....mmm.

Read all about it. . . . . . . Read all about it.
Pick up the paper and read the headlines;
War continues, the death toll climbs;
troops are shredded by enemy mines;
kingdoms fight over boundary lines.

Mmm. . . .mmm.....mmm.

Read all about it. . . . . . . Read all about it.
Look all around you and read the signs.
Science advances and morals decline;
Prophecy sold of the end of times;
Ten major nations will soon align.

Mmm. . . .mmm.....mmm.

Read all about it. . . . . . . Read all about it.
The world won't listen till the very last day.
When the sun is darkened, who will pray?
When all God's children have been taken away,
There won't be anything left to say.

Mmm. . . .mmm.....mmm.

Mmm. . . .mmm.....mmm.

Read all about it . . . . . . Read all about it
It's in the book.

"Oh you vagabond heart"

Time for another new song. Today I am posting this one and dedicating it to my first granddaughter. She is an inspiration in so many ways and I love her so much. Wish we had time to be together more. This song was originally on my first Vagabond Heart Cassette.
This is song number 32 of 52. Posting one new song a week for 2015. If you follow the blog back to earlier posts, you will find one a week for this year.
Enjoy

Oh you vagabond Heart
Why can't you set me free.
Why must you plague me with vagabond dreams,
Why can't you let me be.

You're a lie-er a thief, you've stolen from me
the best years of my life.
You drove me away from the dearest girl,
she would have been my wife.

With vagabond dreams you've branded my heart and
stolen my very soul.
My every thought, the hopes and the dreams
are lost in my vagabond goal.

To what purpose, for what reason have you left me to play
this game to the vagabonds end.
The lonely miles I've traveled today,
To another lonely night I must spend.

Oh, you vagabond heart, you've stolen the best from me.
I gave you my soul,
for a vagabond goal.
What is there next for me.

Oh you vagabond Heart
Why can't you set me free.
Why must you plague me with vagabond dreams,
Why can't you let me be.

"I'm Done With the Blues" and "Turn to Him". Songs #30 and 31.

"I'm done with the blues" is really one of my favorite originals. I especially enjoy the chords on this little Highway One Fender Telecaster. Then the second song on this set, "Turn to Him" is another special song. Songs about things we go through every day. God is good and he has blessed me in more ways than I can count. I hope these songs bless you.

I've been down this road before,
ain't goin down that road no more,
Baby, I'm through with the blues.

Don't be looking for me to cry,
I'm tired of listenin to the same old lies,
Baby, I'm done with the blues.

The way you've treated me, You know it's just not fair,
I'm tired of being lonely, I've had all that I can bare.

No more sittin home alone,
waitin for you to dial the phone,
You're baby is through with the blues.

(instrumental)

No more sittin home alone, I've found me a sunny day,
I've torn up all your letters and I threw them all away.

I got a new life waitin for me,
gotta get back to reality,
So baby, I'm done with the blues.

(instrumental)

No more sittin home alone, I've found me a sunny day,
I've torn up all your letters and I threw them all away.

I got a new life waitin for me,
gotta get back to reality,
So baby,
I'm done with the blues

Turn to Him
  ©1994 John Blodgett
  Johnny Blodgett Composer

Turn to him, when when you're all alone,
Turn to him when the nights are long,
Don't give in to the sinner's song,
Turn to him and he'll make you strong.

(recitation)
You know so many times we feel the world has been so unkind,
And the problems of the every day are so heavy on our minds,
We start thinking in terms of nickles and dimes,
Let's not forget the one who made the sunshine.

Turn to him, he's allways there,
Turn to him, he will aways care,
He died but he lives our burdens to share.
Turn to him, you'll find him there.

(recitation)
So many things are happening in our world today,
So many souls have found the wrong way.
The books and theaters advertise Satin's moral decay,
And those who would follow, can't see the awful price they must pay.

Turn to him, when you can't go on,
He waits for your call, he'll make you strong.
When everything's lost and all hope is gone,
Turn to him and you'll never be alone.

(recitation)
No matter how wrong your way has been,
All you need do is believe in him,
He layed down his life to pay for our sin,
Turn to him and you can start your life again.

Turn to him, he's allways there,
Turn to him, he will aways care,
He died but he lives our burdens to share.
Turn to him, you'll find him there.

Four more songs. 26, 27, 28, 29.

"Amarillo Baby"

North from Amarillo, I'm gone and Denver bound,
Sunrise on a blue mesa, I feel that lonsome sound,
Highway's beatin rythym, for my lonely cry,
Amarillo Baby, since you said good-bye.

Our love was like the peaks, out in old New Mexico,
It was hot when it was hot, but in time it grew so cold.
As cold as the ashes underneath the fallen snow.
(The mountains tell the story of why I'm feelin low.)

(yodel)

As I listen to the whistle of a long and lonesome train,
Haulin coal out of the hills across the Texas plain.
Amarillo Baby, will I see you face again?
Will I find someone in Denver to take away this pain?

I'm aimin at the rockies to the mountains up so high,
It's gonna be hard to lose these blues, but I know I gotta try.
Love grew cold in Amarillo, it doesn't matter why.
I'll find another darlin, then I won't need to cry.

(yodel)

"Lookin at a Fool"
Copyr.1994

I know it looks to you,
Like everything is cool,
You think you see a happy man,
But your lookin at a fool.
Lookin at a fool....

A fool who still believes,
That the best thing in this life,
Is to love someone who loves you too,
And to live as man and wife,
To live as man and wife.

You think you see a happy man,
So happy and carefree.
If you could see inside my heart,
You'ld see this misery,
You'ld see this misery.

Passing time so carelessly,
With a lady on my arm.
I don't love her, she don't love me.
Can't do each other harm,
Can't do us any harm.

I'll keep searchin, waitin, hopin,
Someday there could be,
Someone who's just waitin,
For someone just like me,
For someone just like me.

"Someone in Heaven today"
Copyr. 1994
John Blodgett
Johnny Blodgett Composer

There is someone in Heaven today,
The love of my life taken away,
And Lord, I pray tonight,
If there's a chance that she might,
Let her hear the words that I forgot to say.

I love you my darling, I do,
The happiness I've known belongs to you.
Till the light fades from my eyes,
Till the stars fall from the skies,
Forever, and ever I'll be true.

While I was out walking today,
I thought of things I'd found so hard to say,
Of the way I cared for you,
Of the dreams you made come true,
But you're gone, Heaven's called you away.

I love you my darling, I do,
The happiness I've known belongs to you.
Till the light fades from my eyes,
Till the stars fall from the skies,
Forever, and ever I'll be true.

If there's someone you care for tonight,
Take her in your arms and hold her tight.
Say the words she longs to hear,
Let her know how much you care,
She may never hear the words if you wait.

I love you my darling, I do,
The happiness I've known belongs to you.
Till the light fades from my eyes,
Till the stars fall from the skies,
Forever, and ever I'll be true.

"Big Black Cat"

Johnny Blood Composer

I was walkin down the street. Saw a big black cat.
He was sittin on a fence, with his tail through a slat.
I pulled that black tail, he let out a scream,
it sounded like me babe, since you split my scene.

I gotta find that woman, before I lose my mind.
She left me screamin the blues, I lost all....track a time.

Cat ran down the alley, bout a hundred and five,
Just like you left me babe, didn't even say good-bye.
He turned round the corner, disappeared from my sight.
You know I miss you in the daytime, but I'm screamin the blues at ni-i-ight.

I gotta find that woman, before I lose my mind.
She left me screamin the blues, I lost all....track a time.

She left me screamin the blues, I lost all....track a time.

Blodgett Quartet Jesus How I Need Thee

What fun for me to have family get together at my birthday party. My three children, Barry, Katie and Jason were good enough to offer their voices to my number 24th song for 2015. We use to be able to get together and sing all the time but as families grow and everyone is going in a different direction it is not that easy to do. I was just so blessed to have this time to sing with the kids.
The Lord gave me this song back in the early 70s. I trust that the Holy Spirit will bless you with music and lyric.

Oh for a drop of the blood that was shed so recklessly,
Oh for a touch of the hands that were scarred at Calvary
Oh for a spark of the wisdom that’s given so I might see,
A glimpse of the glory that’s promised for you and for me.

Jesus, How I need thee,
Oh, Spirit, Heaven speed thee,
Father, send the spirit to guide us on our way.
Glory to the Father,
The one God, there’s no other,
Perfect in your wisdom and mercy

For the wonders of your infinite love
I thank you Lord.
Thank you for the wisdom of your precious word,
We gather together to praise your name in one accord.
I know that I’m saved and I’m giving my life to my Lord.

Jesus, How I need thee,
Oh, Spirit, Heaven speed thee,
Father, send the spirit to guide us on our way.
Glory to the Father,
The one God, there’s no other.
Perfect in your wisdom and mercy.

The stars in the heavens and all of creation belong to thee.
From the dawning of time you love has shined through history.
At the very mention of your sweet name my troubles flee.
Thank you for all of the wonders that you’ve shown to me.

Jesus, How I need thee,
Oh, Spirit, Heaven speed thee,
Father, send the spirit to guide us on our way.
Glory to the Father,
The one God, there’s no other,
Perfect in your wisdom and mercy.

Perfect in your wisdom and mercy.

I was feelin kinda down,
I was feelin kinda blue,
Then I saw your pretty face,
and I wanta dance with you.

There were other pretty girls,
might have asked one or two,
but there wasn't any point to,
cause I wanta dance with you.

(chorus)- Then I took you by the hand,
Held you close, it felt so fine.
Feel the rythem of the band,
I just gotta make you mine.

I just wanta dance with you,
Your what I've been lookin for
let's just stay here on the dance floor
till they lock and bolt the door

Then I said my name is John,
and you said your name is Sue,
think you might give me your number
it was right and we both knew.

Somethin special comin down,
wasn't long and we both knew.
couldn't help myself I kissed you
I just gotta dance with you.

                             (chorus)
(extra verse)
Asked a friend of yours about you,
She said she knew you'ld like to dance
I wasn't waiting any longer
I just gotta take a chance.
