The seasons come the seasons go.

A good friend made this fall wreath for me. I like how it goes with what's left of the summer flowers.

Autumn has arrived and I am reminded of a song Johnny Cash sang on an old album "Now There Was A Song". The song was "The Seasons Of My Heart". Sometimes I have to think about what influenced the songs I have written and Johnny Cash is at the top of a list that includes writers like Merle Haggard, Gene Autrey, Chuck Berry, George Jones, Doc Watson and a host of others dating from way back and into the seventies and eighties. Today's music doesn't work well for me except for an occasional throwback sound. I enjoy basic. A simple and pretty melody and a good lyric. I am turned off by a lot of noise and driven arpeggio guitar or keyboard. Sometimes it just sounds like someone practicing. Then you have someone like B. B. King, who played pretty much one note at a time.

I have a few songs that I hope to put on here before the end of the year.
Here are some titles that are on my mind.

DON'T YOU WANT TO BE MY BABY
COME BACK TO DADDY
DON'T BE WAITING FOR ME
DOWN BELOW
E.T. AND GRAPEFRUIT
WHAT AM I GONNA DO
YOU'VE GOT ME DREAMIN
I REMEMBER YOU
YOU'RE ALL THAT MATTERS
HOLD ON THERE WOMAN
WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME
DON'T BE WAITING FOR ME
FORE I DIE
LOOK UP,  THY REDEMPTION DRAWETH NYE
LEAD THEM HOME

"Takin' it easy takin' it slow"

I was driving a 1985 Chevy C10 pick-up truck and pulling a 23 foot RV camper in about 1988. I was going through a divorce at the time I wrote this song and was just kicking around and trying to find a little peace and a place where I could feel some kind of normal. A long time friend was living down in Merritt Island, Florida and I had traveled down here for a few days to visit with Pam and her family. In my mind’s ear, I can still hear the sound of the skimmer on their swimming pool as I penned and played this song.
It seems so very coincidental to me this morning that in the list of songs I am doing for this year it is actually listed as number 43 and I am producing it as number 43 on the blog. Further, as I am visiting my brother whose house in Merritt Island is only about 5 blocks away from that porch enclosure where this song was written.
In the great scheme of things and God’s plan it just gives me pause. Many things have changed in these past 25 years, but then again, many things haven’t.

Takin it easy -takin it slow                                                                            43.

Leavin all my cares behind me,
Doesn't matter where I go.
No more lost and no more lonely,
Takin it easy, takin it slow.

                        (Refrain)
Let me feel the wind and rain,
Feel the sunshine on my face.
I'll take the good and stand the pain.
The chips can fall and find their place.

Half my life I've spent in givin,
That's ok I hope you know,
The other half I'll spend in livin,
You'll find me where the four winds blow.

                        (Instrumental)
Just me and old "Bo", good old pup.
driftin down life's lonesome road.
I'll take it all, I'll fill my cup.
I'll pay my share, each penny owed.

                        (Refrain)

Let my attitude be whatever,
You be you and me be me,
I won't say "I want forever",
Whatever comes, just let it be.

Lovely place this, Merritt Island, FL

Song #42 "WILL YOUR HOUSE BE EMPTY"

I had planned to publish something else but felt a gospel song would be more fitting for me right now. A recent post attributed to Pope Francis said “It is not necessary to believe in God to be a good person."  Jesus said to the young man who called him "Good Master", "Why do you call me good?" Jesus answered. "No one is good--except God alone". The erroneous quote went on to say "In a way, the traditional notion of God is outdated." The whole thing was a very worldly statement. There is no expiration date on God. Though life on earth changes and cultures change over time, our God is unchanging. Heaven and earth will pass away but his word will never pass away. Jesus Christ is Lord yesterday today and forever. John 14:6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." Generally people will believe what they want to. I am not Catholic but have enough respect for the Pope to believe that he thinks it's necessary to believe in God and that the notion of God is definitely not outdated.

Will your house be empty, after his coming,
Will there be a soul left that hasn't been saved.
In a twinkling we're taken to be with our savior,
Is your house in order, are any enslaved?

                                        (Refrain)
Will your house be empty, will there be a soul,
Who's held by the chains of the seeds he has sowed.
To save them before time, let that be our goal.
Let their name be added to the heavenly role.

The chains of destruction are of our own making,
New links have been added each time we have strayed,
His word is before us, there's no time for waiting.
The time for his coming will not be delayed.

                                        (Refrain)

The kingdom is coming, Jesus is calling,
Give your life over to the master today,
Your sins are forgiven, it's yours for the asking,
All things are given to him that would pray.

                                        (Refrain)

Don't wait any longer, break loose from the bondage,
He's lifting you up in his glorious name.
His love is unending, his angels he's sending,
Those who won't harken, will die in their shame.

                                        (Refrain)

song#37
"I had a dream, It was of you"
Copyr. 1994
 Johnny Blodgett.

I had a dream, it was of you,
I had a dream, it was of you,
I dreamed you were mine, how I wish it were true.

When you wanted me,I turned you away,
I never dreamed, I could love you this way.

My darling.

It seemed at the time, the right thing to do,
I never dreamed it could make me so blue,
I turned away a love that was true.

Someone took the love, that I threw away,
Now I wish that I, had begged you to stay.

My Darling.

I had a dream,
I had a dream,
I had a dream about you.

song#38
"Julie"
copyright 1994
Johnny Blodgett Composer

Julie, your blue eyes are telling me what's on your mind,
Your soft lips so tempting, like deep red burgendy wine.
The light in your eyes and the smile on your face,
fills me with longing, pulling my soul out of place.

Julie tell me, tell me you want me too,
I can't stop this longing my heart beats only for you.

(Instremental same as first verse)

Oh Julie, tell me, tell me you feel the same,
I'd walk through fire dear, just to hear you whisper my name.
Stolen moments, forbidden wine,
foolish chances, I know you'll never be mine.

Julie tell me, tell me you want me too.
I can't stop this longing, my heart beats only for you.

song#39
"Goin Home to Nashville Tennessee"
Copyright 1995
 Johnny Blodgett Composer

I'm goin' home to Nashville, Tennessee,
I'm goin' home to Nashville, Tennessee,
If home is where your heart is
Then I guess the place to start is,
To get on home to Nashville, Tennessee.

I'm goin home to Nashville, Tennessee,
I'm goin home to Nashville, Tennessee,
I've been gone for too damn long.
It's time to get to where I belong,
Get on home to Nashville, Tennessee.

It's time to set it right, I'm headed home tonight,
leavin' all these things that never mattered to me.
I'll leave the past behind, I know I'm gonna find,
Everything I need is down in Nashville, Tennessee.

I'm goin home to Nashville, Tennessee,
I'm goin home to Nashville, Tennessee,
I've been gone for too darn long.
It's time to get to where I belong,
Get on home to Nashville, Tennessee.

Get on home to Nashville, Tennessee.

 song#40
"I Still Love You"
copyright 1994
  Johnny Blood Composer

I Still love you,
I really do.
I can't forget,
The love we knew.

Those special days,
Your tender ways,
still mean too much,
your memory stays.

I know I told you,
I couldn't stay true.
Forgive the Lie dear,
I still love you.

I've been so blue,
what can I do,
You're all I think of
the whole day through.

I've played the fool,
It seems so cruel,
I broke your heart,
and I broke mine too.

And when I think of,
All I sent away,
It breaks my heart dear.
I tell you true.

HOLD IT / WAIT NOW Let's call this Song number 34

 Song #34 one a week for 2015

This was one of if not the first song I ever wrote. I did have an opportunity to sing it for some professionals when I worked at WMCW. They were performing at the Woodstock High School with Tex Ritter back in the 70s. They came for an interview so I took advantage of them. Leona Williams was there with her then husband Ron Williams. She later married Merle Haggard. I know I took advantage of them, but they did give me some positive feedback.
I had to search my copyrights to see when I copyrighted this. I find it was just about the time Audrey and I took a trip to Nashville to try to get some songs published.

"I'm Falling In Love Again" Song #36

"I'm Falling In Love Again"

I think I like this song about almost as much as anything I have posted on this blog. I really hope this will garner some attention. It ain't about anyone in particular except maybe some future meeting. It has taken me a bit of time to get it ready for the blog as I have been struggling with a dry throat because of trying to record while in air conditioning. Opened the windows and doors today so here it is. Hope you like it.

"I'm falling in love again"
 Copyr. 1994
Words and music
John Blodgett

key of A major if you want to play along

Didn't really know you, didn't know about you,
You were just a pretty girl, some-one to pass the time.
Then we got to talkin and when we went out walkin,
I found myself falling in love one more time.

(Refrain)     I'm falling in love, I'm falling in love again,
I can't remember when, it felt to right.
I'm letting it go, I'm taking that chance again,
It's real and I know I'm falling in love with you tonight

The magic of the moonlight, reflecting from your hair,
The soft hush of your perfume, fills the summer air.
I know I didn't plan to, it took me by surprise,
when I see your smiling face and look into your eyes,

                              (refrain)

I thought this chance had gone, that love had passed me by,
But now you've come along sweatheart and I'm the lucky guy,
It's not as though I'd waited for some-one just like you,
I think it's just what fate had designed to lead us to.

                              (refrain)
