Down Below

Sorry fans. Running a little behind here and have a lot to do before the New Year.
Three more songs for --
One a week for 2015
I have tried my best to post number 50 on the blog but can't nail it down. I am not satisfied with what I have been able to record so far. So I am going to give you number 51 instead.
This is a song that I put together in about 1969 while working part time at Badger Marine. We were producing parts for the aircraft industry. I was working during the day at the radio station and evenings for about 4 hours trying to make a few extra dollars so Mama could stay home with the babies. I can't believe that was 46 years ago. Wow!
It is a religious type song. Having nothing to do with any kind of message about how to live or believe, but as the imagination takes us and then the verses come together until it becomes a song. It is a vengeful or vindictive thought that comes up with a song called "Down Below".

Down Below
copyright 1994
  Johnny Blood Composer

I met you in a tavern, shoulda seen it then,
You weren't the kind who would stay to long from sin.
For a while you were mine, we shared a love devine.
But the life you were used to was always on your mind.

(refrain)
Down below - - -Down below
I know I'll laugh when you go.
Down below - - - Down below
When you meet your maker, you're gonna meet him down below.

You must not have listened, to the little parsons words,
To love honor and obey, you must not have heard.
You've broken your vows like you've broken my heart.
Now I'll wait impatiently for you to depart.

(refrain)
Down below - - -Down below
I know I'll laugh when you go.
Down below - - - Down below
When you meet your maker, you're gonna meet him down below.

I know you won't be lonely, whenever you go,
Your friends will all be there, reapin what they've sowed.
The Devil, your master, and ruler of your soul,
Prepares a warm welcome for you down below

(refrain)
Down below - - -Down below
I know I'll laugh when you go.
Down below - - - Down below
My hell on earth is over, when you - go down below

Song number 48 "Look up, Look up, Thy redemtion draweth nie."

"May I say to you" is what I hear. The voice and words of Dr. J. Vernon McGee with his Through the Bible programs, which are still being aired almost 30 years after his death. Thru the bible
I use his podcasts and sermons as a great source of meditation and understanding.
We have so much information at our fingertips via tv, radio, internet and telephone. Sometimes it is almost impossible, no my friends it is altogether impossible to understand what we are up against. We see through a glass darkly, as the King James bible puts it. 1st Corinthians 13:12.
It is so easy to just be taken up with our every day existence and not to worry or care about the things we seem to have absolutely no control over. But there is something you and I can do, should do. Must do! We can Pray!

My thoughts today take me to Asia, Southeast Asia, Africa, South Africa, the middle East, Europe and Eastern Europe, the millions of souls who are displaced by famine and war. Most of the old world and much of the new world. I see children all gaunt and shriveled up, hollow eyed with their abdomen distended from starvation. See people drowning and being murdered while trying to flee the destruction. To use McGee's words, "may I say to you my beloved", there will be no end to these trials in our lifetime. In Luke 21:9-38,"

But when ye shall hear of wars and commotions, be not terrified: for these things must first come to pass; but the end is not by and by.
10 Then said he unto them, Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom:
11 And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.
12 But before all these, they shall lay their hands on you, and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues, and into prisons, being brought before kings and rulers for my name's sake.
13 And it shall turn to you for a testimony.
14 Settle it therefore in your hearts, not to meditate before what ye shall answer:
15 For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist.
16 And ye shall be betrayed both by parents, and brethren, and kinsfolks, and friends; and some of you shall they cause to be put to death.
17 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake.
18 But there shall not an hair of your head perish.
19 In your patience possess ye your souls.
20 And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh.
21 Then let them which are in Judaea flee to the mountains; and let them which are in the midst of it depart out; and let not them that are in the countries enter thereinto.
22 For these be the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled.
23 But woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck, in those days! for there shall be great distress in the land, and wrath upon this people.
24 And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.
25 And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;
26 Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.
27 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.
28 And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.
29 And he spake to them a parable; Behold the fig tree, and all the trees;
30 When they now shoot forth, ye see and know of your own selves that summer is now nigh at hand.
31 So likewise ye, when ye see these things come to pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh at hand.
32 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all be fulfilled.
33 Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.
34 And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.
35 For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth.
36 Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.
37 And in the day time he was teaching in the temple; and at night he went out, and abode in the mount that is called the mount of Olives.
38 And all the people came early in the morning to him in the temple, for to hear him."

This song came from a dream I had in 1972. The dream was very real to me. I was standing and talking with a friend about how the Lord would come in the clouds and as I spoke to her, I looked up and saw a swirling in the clouds and then Jesus emerging with his hand reached down to me. As I saw this, I reached out my hand and was lifted up to meet him in the air. Praise God! It was and is real to me.

"Look Up, Thy redemption draweth nigh"
©1994 John Blodgett

While I kneeled in prayer last night at my bed,
The spirit of God came over me.
I will not forget the words that he said,
three times he repeated it to me.

Look up, look up, thy redemption draweth nigh
The kingdom of God is at hand.
Watch and pray that worthy you may be
to stand before the Son of Man.

As I lay asleep, I dreamed my savior came,
I was standing with a friend,
and as he approached, I heard him call my name,
He reached down and took me by the hand.

What a thrill filled my soul, as I was lifted up.
My friend was left standing there.
From behind me she called, but I couldn't turn my head
and I met my savior in the air.

What a wonderful dream, I will not forget
But a heavenly message was there.
I must reach my friends so they may not be left
and remember them always in prayer.

Just thinking this morning of what to do next. Trying to choose. It looks like I have 5 or 6 songs to get on here before 1/1/2016. These are the songs I am considering.

Any thoughts will be appreciated.

What Am I Gonna Do

I enjoyed a trip to Colorado back in the late 80s. Visiting my brother and just taking in the countryside. Central City, Colorado was a great place away from it all. Think that's where you would fine the "lost gold mine". Great place back then. Can't begin to imagine what it was back in the day. https://www.colorado.gov/centralcity
Maybe some movie with Henry Fonda or John Wayne would give a little look.
One of the interesting things I found there was a cemetery. The Knights of Pythias cemetery. http://www.pythias.org/
But back to the song. This is number 46 of one a week for 2015.

I thought I was free as the wind,
Nothing could ever hold me.
Then you came along like the words of a song,
Like wave after wave of the sea.

                   (refrain)
What am I gonna do babe,
What am I gonna do....
I'm so much in love with you Babe,
So much in love with you.

I stood on the top of the mountain,
Sipped of the worlds vintage wine.
Like a book that was open and page after page,
All of life's pleasures were mine.

(refrain)

I was happy to stand all alone,
There was nothing that I couldn't do.
The road rose to meet me, the wind couldn't beat me.
But what will it be without you.

(refrain)

Come with me and stand by my side.
Let's meet each new day you and I.
There's a rainbow in heaven as this time is given.
Here's my hand.  take wings.  Let's fly

(refrain)

Come Back To Daddy

There was a beauty that I knew and loved 20+ years ago. I dedicate this one to her.

I wrote a few songs for this beauty.

WHEN I WOKE UP THIS MORNING, AND SAW YOU WERE
GONE,
IT DIDN'T TAKE LONG TO REGRET WHAT I'D DONE.
I'M NOT OFFERING EXCUSES OR REASONS AT ALL,
I'M BEGGING YOU DARLIN, I'LL EVEN CRAWL.

COME BACK TO YOUR DADDY, I PROMISE I'LL BE
THE SWEET SUGAR DADDY, THAT YOU WANT ME TO BE.
I WON'T EVER LEAVE YOU AND I'LL ALWAYS BE TRUE,
JUST GIVE ME ONE CHANCE TO PROVE IT TO YOU.

I WASN'T MYSELF, WHEN YOU SAW ME LAST NIGHT.
BABY I KNOW I WAS WRONG, YOU WERE SO RIGHT.
YOU SAID I'D BE SORRY FOR TREATING YOU BAD,
GOD KNOWS I'M SORRY, YOU'RE THE BEST THING I EVER
HAD.

COME BACK TO YOUR DADDY, I PROMISE I'LL BE
THE SWEET SUGAR DADDY, THAT YOU WANT ME TO BE.
I WON'T EVER LEAVE YOU AND I'LL ALWAYS BE TRUE,
JUST GIVE ME ONE CHANCE TO PROVE IT TO YOU.

OH BABY FORGIVE ME, LET'S TRY IT AGAIN,
I PROMISE I'LL BE A BETTER LOVER AND FRIEND.
I'LL GIVE UP MY DRINKIN AND PLAYIN AROUND,
NO MORE RUNNIN ALL OVER TOWN.

COME BACK TO YOUR DADDY, I PROMISE I'LL BE
THE SWEET SUGAR DADDY, THAT YOU WANT ME TO BE.
I WON'T EVER LEAVE YOU AND I'LL ALWAYS BE TRUE,
JUST GIVE ME ONE CHANCE TO PROVE IT TO YOU.

I'M SORRY SWEET DARLING, PLEASE DON'T STAY
AWAY,
COME BACK TO YOUR DADDY, HE'S SO SORRY TODAY.
TAKE ME BACK IN YOUR ARMS, I'M DOWN ON MY KNEES,
WITH MY HEART IN MY HANDS, I'M BEGGING YOU PLEASE.

COME BACK TO YOUR DADDY, I PROMISE I'LL BE
THE SWEET SUGAR DADDY, THAT YOU WANT ME TO BE.
I WON'T EVER LEAVE YOU AND I'LL ALWAYS BE TRUE,
JUST GIVE ME ONE CHANCE TO PROVE IT TO YOU.

Song #42 "WILL YOUR HOUSE BE EMPTY"

I had planned to publish something else but felt a gospel song would be more fitting for me right now. A recent post attributed to Pope Francis said “It is not necessary to believe in God to be a good person."  Jesus said to the young man who called him "Good Master", "Why do you call me good?" Jesus answered. "No one is good--except God alone". The erroneous quote went on to say "In a way, the traditional notion of God is outdated." The whole thing was a very worldly statement. There is no expiration date on God. Though life on earth changes and cultures change over time, our God is unchanging. Heaven and earth will pass away but his word will never pass away. Jesus Christ is Lord yesterday today and forever. John 14:6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." Generally people will believe what they want to. I am not Catholic but have enough respect for the Pope to believe that he thinks it's necessary to believe in God and that the notion of God is definitely not outdated.

 Will your house be empty

Will your house be empty, after his coming,
Will there be a soul left that hasn't been saved.
In a twinkling we're taken to be with our savior,
Is your house in order, are any enslaved?

                                        (Refrain)
Will your house be empty, will there be a soul,
Who's held by the chains of the seeds he has sowed.
To save them before time, let that be our goal.
Let their name be added to the heavenly role.

The chains of destruction are of our own making,
New links have been added each time we have strayed,
His word is before us, there's no time for waiting.
The time for his coming will not be delayed.

                                        (Refrain)

The kingdom is coming, Jesus is calling,
Give your life over to the master today,
Your sins are forgiven, it's yours for the asking,
All things are given to him that would pray.

                                        (Refrain)

Don't wait any longer, break loose from the bondage,
He's lifting you up in his glorious name.
His love is unending, his angels he's sending,
Those who won't harken, will die in their shame.

                                        (Refrain)

"I'm Falling In Love Again" Song #36

"I'm Falling In Love Again"

I think I like this song about almost as much as anything I have posted on this blog. I really hope this will garner some attention. It ain't about anyone in particular except maybe some future meeting. It has taken me a bit of time to get it ready for the blog as I have been struggling with a dry throat because of trying to record while in air conditioning. Opened the windows and doors today so here it is. Hope you like it.

key of A major if you want to play along

Didn't really know you, didn't know about you,
You were just a pretty girl, some-one to pass the time.
Then we got to talkin and when we went out walkin,
I found myself falling in love one more time.

(Refrain)     I'm falling in love, I'm falling in love again,
I can't remember when, it felt to right.
I'm letting it go, I'm taking that chance again,
It's real and I know I'm falling in love with you tonight

The magic of the moonlight, reflecting from your hair,
The soft hush of your perfume, fills the summer air.
I know I didn't plan to, it took me by surprise,
when I see your smiling face and look into your eyes,

                              (refrain)

I thought this chance had gone, that love had passed me by,
But now you've come along sweatheart and I'm the lucky guy,
It's not as though I'd waited for some-one just like you,
I think it's just what fate had designed to lead us to.

#35 "So Long John"

This song from a trip down to Nashville in the 70s.
We walked up and down music row (2nd Ave.)
Chasing a dream and full of hope.
So anyway for some reason my other song "Goin home to Nashville" did not render properly so I have redone the other song.
I still owe you all number 34, and I will work on it. But in the meantime, here is number 35.

 "SO LONG JOHN"

Sleepin in the back of a pick up truck,
Money's all gone, guess I'm outa luck,
There ain't no place for John in Music City,

My socks are dirty, God I'm beat,
Music row's a one way street,
For some success for me defeat, I'm leavin.

(refrain)      Music city just don't want me
Music row has no place for me.
I've tried everything I know, but it's so long John,
You-all come again to Music City.

I've knocked on every door on music row,
Chased this dream as far as I can go,
The Grand Ole Opry will never know I've been here,

God only knows the way it hurts,
Broken dreams and dirty shirts
Now it's time to move on down the highway

                    (refrain)

Playin for tips in a Broadway Bar,
Hocked everything but my guitar,
I can't give in I've come to far to quit now.

I gave my all and paid my dues,
wore big holes in both my shoes,
could hang around but please excuse, I'm leavin.

                    (refrain)
                    (alternate)
I hate to leave the few I'm pleasin,
but common scense and all good reason, say it's not the time and not the season.
